What are the minimum age requirements?

Children entering Trenton Co-op must be toilet trained and three years old by December 1st of the school year for which they are to be enrolled.  For example, if school begins in September 2009 your child must turn three on or before December 1, 2009.

How often do classes meet?

The school year typically begins after Labor Day and runs through May.  The class schedule is as follows:

How many children are in each class?

There are twenty children in the 3 year old classes and twenty-two children in the 4 year old classes.

What are the costs?

Costs are broken into several categories; tuition, fees, and fundraising.  Discounts are applied to families with more than one student enrolled during the same school year.

What are the volunteer requirements?

  • Parent/Guardian of 3 year old students work in the classroom 1 - 2 times per month.
  • Parent/Guardian of 4 year old students work in the classroom 2 - 3 times per month.
  • Each family is responsible for taking part in an annual "deep cleaning" of the school.  This is done together as a whole class.
  • Mandatory attendance of five General Membership meetings per school year.
  • Holding a job specific to the organization.  Some examples include scheduler, librarian, fundraising committee, and social committee.  Members are also encouraged to volunteer as Board Members.
  • For the safety of our children, anyone working in the classroom must submit to a background check administered by the Michigan Family Independence Agency.

How do I enroll?

Registration for new members occurs during our Open House which is held in March.  Please contact us for registration opportunities outside this event.

Can I visit the school to take a look?

Absolutely.  We just ask that you contact us to arrange for a time that is convenient for yourself and the teacher.

Is the school licensed?

Yes.  We are licensed with the State of Michigan Bureau of Family Services. We are also members of the Greater Detroit Cooperative Nursery Council (GDCNC).
